Royal Hawaiian Band

The Royal Hawaiian Band was founded in 1836 by King Kamehameha III. Today it is a body of the County and City of Honolulu. The band performs concerts all over the world, and when they are not on tour they perform nearly every Friday on the grounds of the Iolani Palace.

  • The band has 38 musicians and an annual budget that was approximately $760,000 in 1982 and abut $1.6 million in 2005.
  • The typically performs more then 300 times a year.

    The Royal Hawaiian Band: Its Legacy
    This book about the history of the Royal Hawaiian Band was written by Scott C.S. Stone and published by Island Heritage in November of 2004. The 128 page book comes with a CD recording of eighteen songs, including "Hawaii Ponoi" and "Aloha Oe".

    Iolani Palace Royal Hawaiian Band Concerts
    The Royal Hawaiian presents free concerts, most dry days, on the grounds of the Iolani Palace from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m.
