Arthur Lyman: 1932-2002
Vibraphone player known as the "King of Lounge Music"
Arthur Lyman was born on the island of Kauai on February 2, 1932
when Hawaii was still only a territory of the United States.
He graduated from McKinley High School on Oahu in 1951 and went to work
as a desk clerk at the Halekulani Hotel. He met Martin
Denny there in 1954 when he was 21 years old and was
offered a spot in Martin Denny's band. Arthur Lyman left
Martin Denny's band in 1957 to form his own group.
Arthur Lyman died of throat cancer on February 24, 2002.
