Ale'a

This group of traditional Hawaiian singers and acoustic musicians was formed in 1997 includes Ryan Gonzalez (Gonzo) Chad Takatsugi, and Kaho'okeleholu Hannahs (Kale). Kale plays base, Chad plays guitar and ukulele, and Gonzo plays guitar, ukulele, and banjo. All three sing lead and background vocals. Jackson Kuroiwa was part of the group briefly in the early days, and Kala'iSterm was part of the group from 1998 to 2000 when he left to become the director of the Honolulu Boy's Choir.

  • Formerly band member Kalai Stern is now a teacher and choral director at Hawaii Pacific University Downtown.

    The Ale'a Performance Schedule is available on the group's official Web site at Alea Online. CDs recorded by Ale'a include "Take Me Home" in 2000, "Kinohi" in 2002, and "Kaulupono" in 2004.
